About the Foundation

The Library Foundation enhances county-wide programs and services that are not funded with local tax dollars.  Members of the foundation approve funding based on requests made by library staff in response to community needs and to provide equity among branches. Funds are raised through contributions from businesses and individuals, grants, and special events. The Foundation consists of volunteer community members, including a representative from each of the county libraries' Friends groups.

Every year, the Foundation contributes to the funding raised for Summer Reading, a major initiative for the library. In addition, the Foundation has funded the Winter Reading Program, a monthly book review subscription for the public, Book Club in a Bag kits, various literacy programming, specific collections requests, and much more.

For 2024, the Foundation funded:

  • 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
  • Adult programming that didn't have other available funding, including supplies.
  • Award books for youth for the collection
  • Book Club kits for all ages
  • Book Pages publications for all library locations.
  • Seed Library continuation
  • The Six Word Story contest for TeenTober
  • Summer Reading Program
  • Winter Reads for adults

Become a part of enhancing the Carver County Library by contributing today.

You may earmark your donation to a specific program if you wish. The Library Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization established in 2005. All contributions are tax deductible. For more information, please contact the Library Director at 952-361-1432.

How does the Foundation differ from Friends of the Library?

The Library Foundation of Carver County is a separate organization from the friends of the library groups. A friends group supports its individual library branch, while the Foundation is focusing on county-wide initiatives that will benefit residents in all branches through additional or expanded services and outreach programs. The Foundation and Friends groups work collaboratively on projects when it is appropriate. Summer Reading is one example of this collaboration. Learn more about local Friends Groups

How can I help?

There are a number of ways you can help, including serving on the board or as an ad-hoc member interested in serving on committees for specific event planning and marketing. Board members serve two- or three-year terms, and meet six times a year. The Foundation welcomes any and all suggestions from the community. Please contact a board member with comments and suggestions that you feel would add to the services we can provide.

Thank you for your support!
